Why Transmedia?

by Cecilie on September 11, 2012

There’s lots of definitions flying around at the moment, which is good: It has value for the industry to understand what we’re doing and what we’re talking about.

But I find that in the dialogue with filmmakers, theory has little value. Faced with a list of ‘new demands’, filmmakers react with fatigue and confusion to terms like transmedia.

So let’s not. Let’s ask questions like:

- How can you use much more of the material you produce than predefined tv or cinema slots allow?

- If you could talk directly to your audience, without having to go through gatekeepers like financiers, distributors and marketers – what would you say?

- When you’ve caught your audiences’ attention – what do you say? And how can you continue the dialogue?

- How can you build on your fans enthusiasm by having them help you with the stuff you can’t do yourself?
